Outstanding achievement for primary care nursing in Tameside

NURSES working in primary care in Tameside were recently recognised for their outstanding achievements at the prestigious Greater Manchester Primary Care Nurse Awards.

The awards were dominated by Tameside who won 3 out of the ten categories and came runner-up in two other categories, with 19 nominations made in total.

Special recognitions went to winners:

• Cathryn Butterworth , Health Care Support Worker from Lockside Medical Centre in Stalybridge, who won the best Health Care Support Worker of the Year Award.  This award acknowledged her as an extremely valuable member of the nursing team for her work within the primary care setting.

• Practice Nursing Team at Staveleigh Medical Centre in Stalybridge, who won the Innovative Nursing Team Award.  This award acknowledged the vital contribution their practice nursing team provides in primary care, for consistently delivering confident contemporary care and who consistently perform above what is considered as the ‘norm’ for their peer group.

• Laura Lyons, Nurse from Grosvenor Medical Centre in Stalybridge, who won the Inspirational Nurse Leader Award.   This award acknowledged her as someone who developed initiatives to ensure her practice/practice team were celebrated, and raised the profile of primary care nursing.

Runners up were:

• Gill Pilkington, Nurse Lead at NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), for the Inspirational Nurse Leader Award, part of Greater Manchester Primary Care CCG Nurse leads team.  This award acknowledged her as someone who developed initiatives to ensure her practice/practice team were celebrated, and raised the profile of primary care nursing.

• Eva Richardson, General Practice Nurse at Hattersley Medical Practice in Hattersley, Hyde, and Jenny McGing, General Practice Nurse at Grosvenor Medical Centre in Stalybridge, for the General Practice Nurse of the Year Award.  This award acknowledged them as someone who made a significant contribution to the care and treatment of the practice population and supported improved patient outcomes and experience.      

Nominated:

• Emma Gaffney, Health Care Assistant at Grosvenor Medical Centre who was nominated for a Health Care Support Worker of the Year Award.

Steven Pleasant, Chief Executive at Tameside Council & Accountable Officer at Tameside and Glossop CCG, said: “Well done to everyone who was nominated, especially those who were recognised and won an award, but I know the real winner here is Tameside and its residents who have the services of such committed and dedicated nursing staff who we know are the best.”
